Obviously, the elephant in the room is that application logic runs locally next to the database and it can be exceedingly efficient when writing to the data store that way. They boost this efficiency even further with other tricks (such as batching writes), but to get to the performance numbers they’re showing, you need to cut corners somewhere: the data store is in-memory, which is very much unlike a traditional RDBMs.
